Wildlife clubs are an integral part of communities in Guyana. They are an engaging way for children to connect with nature and learn about sustainability and the unique animals and plants in an area. On a broader scale, they provide an opportunity for young people to explore the relationship between humans and the environment and engage in community activities.
As part of its mandate to support environmental awareness and education in Guyana, the EMC Foundation collaborated with five coastal communities to establish wildlife clubs at the primary and secondary levels in Santa Aratak, Wakapau, Warapoka, Moraikobai, and Saxacalli.
The primary objectives of the wildlife clubs are to:
- Enhance student knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of the natural environment
- Increase awareness of the benefits of restoring and conserving the natural environment
